CATERING

The lodges have all amenities to enable guests to comfortably cater for themselves.  No breakfast, lunch or dinners will be provided.  However, if you require catering, we can supply you with contact details of companies that can do catering from Graaff-Reinet. 

Guests are however welcome to provide us with a shopping list of food and beverages (at least 1 day in advance).  Kransplaas will add 20% to the purchase price of these items.

LANGUAGE

Our staff are fluent in English and Afrikaans.  All formal/written communication will be done in English.

CONSERVATION

Kransplaas is committed to conservation of wildlife and Fauna.  Some of the conservation projects that Kransplaas is involved with:

  • Mountain Zebra - All mountain zebra on Kransplaas has been DNA tested to ensure that no cross-sub specie breeding occur.

  • Alien vegetation - Continuous control measures are undertaken to eradicate alien and invasive plant species, eg Satansbos, Prickley Pear etc

  • Establishment of a tree nursery on the farm

  • Soil rehabilitation in heavily eroded areas as a historic result of overgrazing.

  • Intensive breeding program of scarce antelope species - Sable Antelope, Nyala and Mountain Zebra

  • Forming part of the Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Protected Environment.

DROUGHT

Kransplaas is situated in the Great Karoo Region.  The Karoo is a semi-desert, and therefore water is scarce.  Since 2015 the area experience a severe drought and we request that guests appreciate the fact that water need to be used sparingly.

Check-out:  before 10:00

ROOM SERVICE / CLEANING

All rooms will be cleaned and serviced everyday (at no charge), except if you do not want to be disturbed.

No cleaning on Sundays.

DRESS CODE

The dress code is casual but neutral colours are recommended on game drives. A sweater may be required at any time, whilst during the winter months (May to September) very warm clothes including a windbreaker (jacket) are essential.

DRINKING WATER

The tap water is not safe to drink.  Each lodge will have clearly marked, safe drinking water in a container.

HONESTY BAR

2 Bags of ice will be provided in the room - if you require more, please contact reception (extra bags of ice - R10 per bag).

A list of beverages is available to order from reception.

BRAAI

2 Bags of wood will be provided - if you require more, please contact reception to purchase additional bags of wood.

Guests may only make fire at designated areas.

COMMUNICATION

Cellphone reception is limited at Kransplaas.  Each lodge have a free wifi connection, and is also equipped with a VOIP telephone.

TV

Each unit is equipped with a flat screen television as well as DSTV.

MALARIA

Kransplaas and the Eastern Cape is Malaria Free.

SAFETY / MEDICAL

Our rangers have a First Aid Qualification. We have a fully equipped first aid bag at the reception. We have 24-hour back-up medical and emergency service 20 minutes away.

LAUNDRY SERVICE

We provide a full laundry service at an extra cost.  Your laundry can be placed in the laundry bag and handed in at reception.  Please complete the Laundry Request form and submit with the laundry bag.

WHAT TO TAKE

  • Comfortable walking shoes, sun hats, sun-glasses, sun screen.

  • Cameras & binoculars.
